NBA Western Conference Round Up And Review Of The Season So Far

Earlier on this season, the Golden State Warriors were making hay at the top of the Western Conference in the NBA with Steph Curry setting new records for three-pointers, the Californian side looked set to bring back the good times.

However, a tailing off of form recently has let the in form Phoenix Suns, NBA Championship losing finalists last year, climb to the top of the Western Conference and they have opened up a 3.5 game over the second placed Warriors.

The Memphis Grizzlies have jumped above the struggling Utah Jazz into third, with the Dallas Mavericks and Denver Nuggets making up the final six spots in the conference at the time of writing.

However, the big news in the West this season has been the struggles of the Los Angeles Lakers with big money signing of Russell Westbrook not really working, the Lakers lie 8th in the standings with a 23-24 record, 14.5 games behind the Suns.

So can the Lakers turn things around in the second half of the season? Will the Warriors strike back or can the Suns avoid burnout?

Who Is In Form?

Perhaps unsurprisingly given their position in the Western Conference, the Phoenix Suns are the form team at the moment, having won all of their last seven games and 9 of their last 10. It is that form which has seen them move 3.5 games clear of the Warriors at the top of the Conference.

Other than the Suns, the best winning record at the moment is just two wins in a row, held by the Warriors and the Trail Blazers inside the top 10 and the Pelicans just outside it. This attests to how tough teams have found it in the NBA this season.

The Mavericks have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games, and the Grizzlies and Timberwolves are 7-3, with the Denver Nuggets and Trail Blazers 6-4. The Warriors are 5-5, the same as the Lakers, but the Utah Jazz have hit a tricky spell winning just two of their last ten games.

Home And Away Form?

The Golden State Warriors have the best home record in the Western Conference winning 21 and losing just four of their home court games. However, they are 13-9 on the road, which is more of a worry, although they have a good divisional record (7-1), their conference record isn’t the best at 18-8.

Unsurprisingly, along with a good home record of 19-5, the Phoenix Suns have an 18-4 away record and their conference record of 23-7 is the best in the West although their 5-4 divisional record is not that strong.

In terms of points scoring, the Utah Jazz lead the way averaging an NBA best of 114.1 points per game on average,  however it is the Golden State Warriors who concede the fewest points on average at 101.9 points per game. Which is another NBA leading stat.
